Guided Grouse Hunting in Viitasaari
Black Grouse, Capercaillie and Hazel Grouse Hunting in the Forests and Marshes of Central Finland
About This Experience
The Viitasaari area of Central Finland boasts excellent grouse hunting opportunities, with multiple, state owned small-game areas nearby as well as club lands available. There is a good population of Black Grouse, Hazel Grouse and Western Caipercaille in the woods and swamps and some truly beautiful scenery.
Guests will stay in a cabin or camp nearby the hunting area. We will wake early and get into position where the guide will set decoys and call Black Grouse in to the hunters. Ambush hunting is in the morning and evening, with the day spent afield in the swamp and forest depending on the fitness level of the hunters.
All meals are included, with breakfast and dinner at camp and lunch in the field. Sauna is also included.
Hunters should be prepared to shoot grouse on the wing with a shotgun, or at a distance of 100-300m off the tree tops. Weapon rental is available, as well as access to a shooting range to test their weapons.
While a two day hunt would be best to ensure success, a one day hunt is also possible. There is an excellent chance to harvest a Black Grouse and Hazel Grouse. Caipercaille is considerably more difficult but definitely possible.

I trained as a certified Wilderness Guide through the International Wilderness Guide program in 2019 and have worked as a guide in Finland ever since.
Over the years, I have led kayak and canoe trips across Finland and worked for six years as a snowmobile guide at a four-star hotel in Lapland. Since moving to Central Finland, where my wife is from, I have also become a passionate and dedicated hunter.
Before beginning my career as a guide, I studied Anthropology and Politics and worked as a chef and bartender. This diverse background has shaped the way I work with people and the importance I place on thoughtful service, good food and genuine hospitality.
I believe that a memorable outdoor experience is about more than the activity itself. My goal is to offer every guest a high standard of hospitality and personal customer service — qualities that I feel are too often overlooked in the outdoor industry.
