About This Experience
The Teno river runs 360 km along the border of Finland and Norway before emptying into the Arctic Ocean. It hosts the largest Atlantic salmon run in the European Arctic — fish of 10–20 kg are common and specimens over 30 kg are caught every season. Fishing rights on the Finnish bank are controlled under a bilateral Finland-Norway treaty; licences are extremely limited and must be purchased in advance at the local municipality. Our guide secures your licence (included in the price), meets you at Utsjoki village, and guides you on foot along the riverbank to the best pools. The guide provides a 14-foot spey rod, sink-tip lines and a selection of tube flies. Wading is conducted in designated areas only per treaty rules. This is catch-and-release only from 2025 onwards. The Arctic midnight sun means fishing is possible 24 hours a day in June and July.
