About This Experience
Kaldoaive Wilderness Reserve (2,930 km²) is the largest protected area in Finland and one of the most remote places in all of Europe. The reserve encompasses the entire fell plateau between the Teno (Tenojoki) and Lemmenjoki rivers, stretching to the Norwegian border. Our specialist guide — one of only three licensed operators in the reserve — leads a 4-day expedition for a maximum of three guests. The route crosses open tundra, ancient Sámi sacred sites, and the headwaters of Finland's most famous salmon river. Wildlife encounters here can include gyrfalcon, snowy owl, wolverine, and Arctic fox. There are no marked trails, no mobile signal, and no other humans — just the wind, the fell, and the Arctic sky. A satellite communication device is carried at all times. This expedition is for experienced hikers in good physical condition.
