About This Experience
Ikaalinen in Western Pirkanmaa is famous as a spa town, but its network of spring-fed streams draining into Kyrösjärvi (170 km²) is a hidden gem for beginning fly-fishers. The streams hold wild brown trout and grayling in easily wadeable riffles with overhead casting space — perfect for teaching. Your instructor is a certified Finnish Fly Fishers Association guide who splits the day into morning casting lessons on the lawn (leader attachment, overhead cast, roll cast) and afternoon wading on the stream. All tackle — 9-foot 5-weight rod, waders, wading boots, and a selection of dry flies and nymphs — is provided. Fish are returned. Minimum age 12.
