About This Experience
Vätsäri Wilderness Area (1,550 km²) occupies the northeastern corner of Finland between the Inarijoki and Lemmenjoki rivers, bordering Norway and Russia. There are no roads, no fell stations, no electricity — only the fell plateau, boreal forest pockets, and wild rivers. Our guide leads a 3-day backpacking experience beginning with helicopter transfer from Inari to a drop-off point on the Vätsäri plateau. The route follows ancient Sámi reindeer trails through the wilderness, camping beside fell streams under the midnight sun or northern lights. Fishing in wilderness lakes (permit included) and wildlife tracking form part of the daily programme. Moose, wolverine, reindeer and occasionally lynx are encountered. Maximum group size 4 ensures a genuine wilderness experience. Full camping equipment provided; guests bring personal clothing.
