About This Experience
Inari municipality covers 17,333 km² — larger than Cyprus — and has a permanent population of just 6,800. It is home to all three Sámi peoples of Finland: the Inari Sámi, Skolt Sámi and Northern Sámi. This full-day guided tour begins at the SIIDA Sámi Museum in Inari village, continues to a working reindeer herding cooperative for an authentic encounter with modern semi-nomadic herding culture, and ends with a two-hour boat trip on Lake Inari to a remote wilderness island for a traditional campfire meal. Wildlife sightings typically include reindeer, golden eagle, and in autumn the possibility of brown bear at dusk. Evening northern lights viewing in September–October. Boat trip weather-dependent; hiking alternative available.
