About This Experience
Juupajoki is a small forest municipality in Pirkanmaa where commercial forestry was halted on several large private estates, preserving old-growth boreal forest with lichen-covered spruce and ancient scots pine. This is ideal habitat for capercaillie (metso) — Finland's largest grouse and a prized game bird. Our guide operates two trained English cocker spaniels that work the dense undergrowth and flush birds to waiting guns. Hazel grouse are flushed from alder and birch thickets along stream edges. Woodcock pass through in numbers during October migration. Daily bag limits are strictly observed. A traditional smokehouse sauna and overnight cabin are available for multi-day bookings.
